What is PAT Testing
PAT testing is the 'Examination and Testing of Electrical equipment' (more often than not referred to as Portable appliance testing or PAT). PAT testing was introduced to enable companies & organizations conform to the Electricity at Work Regulations.
To act in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations all portable electrical appliances should be routinely tested by a competent individual. The regulations relate equally to small businesses and the self employed as to the larger organizations.
The regulations cover all items of in-service electrical equipment, this includes all movable items connected to the mains supply by plugs or hard wired via a fused connection unit. In addition to being accountable for the safety of their own portable equipment, companies are also responsible for the safety of equipment brought on site by employees and contractors.
Equipment owned by a DJ or Disco Company should be PAT tested yearly due to the amount of times mobile disco equipment is moved around from Venue to Venue.
